DESCRIPTION

"Owl", ca. 1910.
Patinated metal.
Signed on the base.
Shows signs of use and wear.
Measurements: 13 x 10 x 6,5 cm.

Characteristic work of Hugo Berger. Typical of Goberg's work is the use of honest materials such as iron and brass. The handmade character clearly catches the eye. His style, method and materials fitted perfectly with the Arts & Crafts movement, a very popular style at the time. At the beginning of the 20th century he became known throughout the world, due to the fact that Liberty department stores and other associated stores sold much of his work. In 1895, Hugo Berger (Goberg) founded his first metal factory in Schmalkalden (Germany), where decorative hardware was manufactured in the traditional way.
