BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

RAOUL LAMOURDEDIEU (Fauguerolles, France, 1877 - Pierrefonds, France, 1953).
"Ballerina", ca. 1930.
Patinated bronze. Onyx base.
Signed on the base.
Measurements: 42 cm (figure height); 11.5 x 10 x 10 cm (base).

This exquisite figure represents a dancer of stylized figure raising her arms while holding a dove. It highlights its neat and tight clothing that covers her body completely and is decorated with delicate spherical beads. It is a realistic work in its modeling but rigorous and geometric in its composition, perfectly reflecting the aesthetic basis of Art Deco.

Raoul Lamourdedieu was a sculptor and medalist, member of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and the Salon d'Automne. In 1894, he entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux. In 1897, he entered the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the studio of Alexandre Falguière. He continued his training with Alexandre Charpentier and then, under the tutelage of Louis-Ernest Barrias, he participated in the decoration of the Grand-Palais with François Sicard and Paul Landowski.
