BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Celestial globe LOUIS CHARLES DESNOS (France, 1725-1805).
Printed and lacquered paper. Walnut wood frame.
Measurements: 70 x 44 x 44 cm.

Celestial globe drawn by Louis Charles Desnos, cartographer and manufacturer of globes and mathematical instruments established in Paris, where he worked for the King of Denmark Christian VII, among many other personalities of the time.

The globe stands on a wooden base, with an axis that allows the globe to rotate. The celestial sphere shows, among other indications, the constellations. The terrestrial and celestial globes are usually mounted, as we see here, on an angled support, which facilitates their use by representing at the same time the angle of the planet with respect to the sun and its own rotation. This makes it easy to visualize how the days and seasons change.
