BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Following the model of "GIAMBOLOGNA", JOHN OF BOLONIA (Douai, Flanders, 1529 - Florence, 1608). Italy, 17th century.
"Lion attacking a horse".
White marble.
Measurements: 25 x 23 x 14 cm.

Model inspired by a bronze sculpture made by Antonio Susini, 1580 (ca.) following the model of Giovanni Bologna (1529-1608). Raised on a circular base, the sculptural group depicts a violent scene of a lion attacking a horse. The equine has been knocked to the ground before the thrust of the beast that tears the skin of his back, while he turns his head crazed by the pain.
