Inspired by the gesture and the mastery of Rodin, in his female nudes, Marie-Jo Bourron worked with a freedom and a modernity of expression that give her work a unique aspect. Her work can also be related to that of Camille Claudel. They were among the few women sculptors of their time, and both pursued realism and novelty at the same time.

A self-taught sculptor. Marie-Jo Bourron enrolled in evening classes at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1968. She soon began working with clay, marble and bronze, and exhibited for the first time in 1974 at the Salon des indépendants in Paris. She exhibited mostly in France, but also in the United States, Germany and Switzerland, both individually and in groups, most notably in 1988 in Chicago in a duo at the Jacques Baruch Gallery with photographer Lucien Clergue and painter Sacha Chimkevitch. She was a complete artist. To classic materials such as bronze and marble, she renews her repertoire by using original plasters that she patinates, cast or molded resins, other composites and, finally, clay.
