BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

ANNIBALE DE LOTTO (San Vito di Cadore, 1877 - Venice, 1932).
"The crab".
Patinated bronze and marble pedestal.
Signed.
Measurements: 105 x 70 x 39 cm.
Bronze sculpture featuring a young man who raises one of his feet and twists his torso to see if he has been bitten by the small crab that is part of the rocky base of the sculpture.
The piece is signed by Annibale De Lotto, Italian sculptor son of the sculptor Giovanni Battista De Lotto. In 1891 he enrolled at the Accademia and became Antonio Dal Zotto's favorite student. At the end of his studies he opened a studio in the San Vio district. In 1900 he took part in the Rome exhibition, presenting the works In flagrante and Dido; the latter was later exhibited at the Milan, Munich and London Triennale. In 1904 he was again at the Triennale. During this period, De Lotto distinguished himself as an author of celebratory sculptures and portraits. From 1903 to 1924 he participated in all the editions of the Venice Biennale and for the press room of the event he painted the two figures of Justice and Liberty. He also exhibited in group exhibitions organized by the Bevilacqua La Masa foundation in Ca' Pesaro.
