BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Attributed to CURTIS JERE; c. 1970.
Chromed metal.
Measurements: 70 cm (diameter).
Chromed metal sculpture Space Age style, entirely made of chromed metal, with a design reminiscent of artificial satellites. It has a central sphere, from which the arms depart. Space Age is the name given to the period in which the space race was launched, starting in 1957 with the launch of Sputnik. This fever to conquer space also reached design, and during the sixties and seventies a model of decoration was developed based on an idyllic vision of the future, and everything to do with spaceships, new technologies and innovative materials.
Aesthetically the work is reminiscent of the aesthetics of Curtis Jeré, a goldsmith company known for wall sculptures and home accessories. Curtis Jeré is a pseudonym composed of founding artists Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels, who combined parts of their own names to create the firm in 1963. Their goal was to produce "gallery-quality art for the masses."
