BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

RAFAEL CARRERAS PUIGDENGOLAS (Puigcerdà, 1933- Barcelona, 2013) for Tramo.
Globe" table lamp, 70s. Very rare model.
Plastic and metal material.
It presents marks of use according to the use and the passage of time.
Measurements: 40 x 40 x 40 cm.

Globe formed by 2 transparent acrylic shells, 8 ornamental metal screws (iron) chrome, metal rods (iron) painted yellow. Semicircular lampshade in yellow painted aluminum, painted white inside. 4 solid chrome balls. Four solid steel balls make the sphere rotate when the orientation of the bulb is changed. This lamp was initially supposed to have a leaded metal base so that the sphere would have to rotate without rolling, but Tramo (Miguel Milà's company Tramos Molestos) felt that this made it unnecessarily expensive and so the lamp was sold without a base.

Rafael Carreras was a designer and technical architect. From the 1970s onwards he devoted himself exclusively to industrial design and interior design, designing for companies such as Clas, MC, Myc, Nave, ICS, Mobiplast, Tramo, Syma System and Código. Between 1965 and 1970 he was director of NAU, interior architecture between Barcelona and Madrid. His products were selected on several occasions for the ADI/FAD Delta and FAD interior design awards and were published in a number of national and international magazines (Hogares Modernos, On, Abitare, Domus, etc.). He combined his work with teaching, which he did at the Massana School in Barcelona. He was also linked to different institutions that promoted design, such as the BCD and ARQ-INFAD, of which he was a founding member and first president (1976-1982). His designs include the Pop chair (1967), the 143 chaise longue (1970) and the Hollywood chair (1993).
