Malgosia Jankowska composes scenes of great emotional depth using only watercolor, which she handles with unusual mastery. This is evident in this winter landscape in which a child and his mother are soaking in a lake. Children occupy a preponderant place in his imaginary as emblems of purity and coexistence with the natural world. The white light meanders through the foliage, constructing a sublime environment from which the mystery of old photographs emanates.
Malgosia Jankowska, born in Sochaczew, studied painting between 1998 and 2003 at the College in Warsaw, Poland. She has also studied at the University of Art of Berlin where she currently lives and works. She has been living in the German capital since 2001. The Polish painter, with her technique of watercolor and Chinese ink, has a long career and an extensive exhibition tour throughout Europe. Since 2006 she has been exhibiting her work regularly, mainly in Germany. Among the centers where his work has been shown are the duPont Gallery in Fredericksburg, Virginia (USA); Kunsthaus Hannover, Wolfram Völcker Fine Art (Berlin), Galerie Maurer (Frankfurt am Main), Kunstverein APEX, Galerie Michael Schultz (Berlin) or Kunstmuseum Bochum. With fine brushstrokes, he places people in sublimated landscapes. He masterfully creates paintings of great depth by alternating translucent and pasty colors. The filigree lines, together with the softened tones - sometimes restricted to a single color on a white background - are reminiscent of old storybook engravings. Indeed, the scenes Malgosia's paintings invite us into are like a fairy tale. The children in the forest, the wolves or the colossal mushrooms are not only visual images of a reality borrowed in the manner of the Brothers Grimm. Likewise, Malgosia has endowed herself with a set of figures all her own, which she always puts in relation to each other. The child as an emblem of innocence, wandering free in the dangerous forest, reflects a secret world of the subconscious. Nature becomes the space of buried fears and desires. Moreover, his strokes are the result that allow us to see the emphasis of Malgosia's work.
