The Ramos Rejano ceramic factory, located in the Triana district of Seville, was one of the most important of the 20th century. Founded in 1895 by Manuel Ramos Rejano, it operated until 1965. Ramos Rejano was born in Palma del Río in 1851 and, after a brief career in commerce, he dedicated himself to ceramics, founding his first factory in Los Remedios and later moving it to the street. San Jacinto. His production was characterized by high artistic quality, standing out for the technique of gilding and metallic luster. The factory won prestigious awards and had renowned ceramists such as Alfonso Chaves Tejada. After the death of Ramos Rejano in 1922, his son Manuel Ramos Villegas took over the management, but the factory closed in 1965 due to the crisis.
Notable Ramos Rejano factory painters include Manuel Vigil-Escalera y Díaz, Enrique Orce Mármol, Manuel García Bermúdez, Pedro Navia Campos, José Gómez Perea, Manuel Baena Gutiérrez and Juan Oliver Míguez, the latter as an external collaborator. Also noteworthy were Alfonso Chaves Tejada, who joined in 1925 and was appointed workshop master in 1938, and Carlos Roquette de la Torre, who also worked as an external collaborator.
Other painters on the staff were Pedro Lobo de la Vallina, Antonio Díaz Ropero, José Colchero Caro, Juan L. Gallego Arillo, José Gutiérrez Rodríguez and Antonio Carrera Acosta, who collaborated in the 1960s. In addition, the sculptor Francisco Cluny and another artist named Ceballos were also part of the team.
