Henri Guingot was a draftsman and sculptor from Lorraine who became curator of the museums of the Vosges. He was the son of Louis Guingot, a painter of the Nancy School, who brought him into contact with Louis Majorelle and Émile Gallé, among others, at an early age. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at the École nationale supérieure d'art de Nancy, where he studied sculpture and modeling with Victor Prouvé. In 1914, he worked with his father on the first camouflage costumes. In 1915, at the age of 17, he enlisted as a volunteer in the Great War, from which he returned with several decorations.
