Trained in Barcelona, Mercadé lived in Paris between 1948 and 1954, and upon his return he was co-founder of the Taüll group. He held many exhibitions, both individual and collective, in Barcelona, Madrid, Zaragoza, Milan and Bern, among other cities. He promoted the Salón de Mayo in Barcelona, and represented Spain in the Biennials of São Paulo and Alexandria, as well as in the Parisian salons of the Young Painters, the National Fine Arts and the Independents. In the eighties, together with Tharrats, he supported the birth of the Catalan Association of Plastic Artists. He is represented in the Reina Sofia Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid, the Museum of Fine Arts in Bern, the Camón Aznar Museum in Zaragoza and the MACBA in Barcelona, among others.
