Castilian lyre table of the 17th-18th centuries.
Walnut wood. Metal fasteners of later period (XIX century).
It presents marks of use, wear and damage by xylophages. Needs restoration.

Spanish lyre-legged table with metal braces. The lyre-legged table appeared in Italy in the 16th century, as a table in many cases for representation, not for use. Inspired by the tables of classical antiquity (made of marble and with cross supports), they have two lateral supports that can be removed for transporting the piece of furniture, and which can have a lyre or vase profile. These cross supports will be decorated with classical motifs typical of the Renaissance. In the center of these supports there is an "H" footing, which may be decorated, as we see here, with an undulating mixtilinear profile.
