DESCRIPTION
Pair of candlesticks; France, c. 1900.
Gilded bronze and marble base "fleur de pêcher".
One of them has flaking marble.
Measurements: 33 x 10 x 10 cm (x2).
Pair of candlesticks manufactured in France around 1900. Each candlestick presents an elegantly conceived structure, with an urn-shaped body richly ornamented with reliefs of neoclassical inspiration. In the center of the surface there are female masks with delicate features, surrounded by garlands and decorative vegetal elements in an elaborate work. The base of each piece is supported by three curved bronze supports, which evoke the stylization of classical tripods, reinforcing the sensation of lightness and balance.
The top of each candlestick culminates in a finely molded chalice-shaped receptacle for the candle, decorated with vegetal motifs in bas-relief. This element sits on a bulbous fluted lid, whose harmonious transition to the body of the candlestick reflects the fluidity of form characteristic of late 19th century decorative design.
The candlesticks rest on a "fleur de pêcher" marble base, characterized by distinctive pink and gray veins that provide a subtle and elegant chromatic contrast to the glow of the gilded bronze. This base is, in turn, elevated by small bronze turned legs.
