Neck bracelet of the Luba people. Democratic Republic of Congo, 20th century.

Good state of preservation. Broken-restored at the height of the seat.
Measurements: 12 x 12 cm.

This neck rest presents geometric decoration on the perimeter of the base. Three rings ornament the shaft. Geometric decorations on both sides of the seat.

Of simple line, it is an object of use, since most of the funerary headrests were decorated with gods to protect the possessor in the moments of sleep, as well as inscriptions with names and titles of the deceased, or more elaborate chiselings.
Their arched shape to support the head not only ensures a relatively comfortable position while sleeping, but also allows air to circulate around the head. Still, due to its rigidity, it is believed to be more for votive use.
