Provenance: private collection conceived since the 70s between London and Madrid.
It does not preserve one of the covers.
Measurements: 36 x 14 cm (x2).
Lot consisting of two gilded bronze candlesticks that have the same design. Both are arranged on a circular base, decorated with a chain of balls that runs along the perimeter and gives way to an interior of superimposed leaves that rise adopting a bell-shaped shape. The shaft separated from the foot by a circular structure has been designed as a stipe or truncated pilaster. This area is richly decorated with plant garlands and in the upper area it takes the shape of the breast and face of a woman who acts as a caryatid with respect to the wick of each of the candlesticks. The female figure is repeated four times, framed in each case in an Ionic capital. Finally, the wick area takes the shape of a classic cup with lion-shaped masks on each side and the representation of a flame of fire as the finish. The ornamental motifs are reminiscent of examples of decorative art typical of the period called Louis XVI, but reinterpreted to better adapt to the aesthetic taste of the 19th century.
