Measurements: 30,7 cm. diameter.
Dish belonging to the Sukhothai culture (ancient kingdom of north-central Thailand). It has a scalloped rim with lobed projections. Oxidation and wear.
The Sukhothai kingdom was founded in the mid-13th century when a local Thai ruler led a revolt against Khmer rule. It existed only as a small regional power until its third ruler, Ramkhamhaeng, inherited the kingdom around 1279. He extended his power southward over the Malay Peninsula, westward into what is now Burma and northeastward into present-day Laos. At his death in 1298 the kingdom began to lose power and in 1438 was absorbed by the kingdom of Ayutthaya.
