DESCRIPTION
Set of four Kasaï weavings - Shoowa/kuba - Democratic Republic of Congo, early 20th century.
Raffia.
Measurements: 68,5 x 35,5 cm; 56 x 55 cm; 52,5 x 52,5 cm; 50 x 52,5 cm.
Set formed by four ornamented fabrics, all of them with geometric patterns. The Kuba are known for their embroidered textiles of raffia, fiber and ball hats, sculpted palm wine cups and cosmetic boxes, but even more so for their spectacular masks, with exquisite geometric patterns, fabrics, seeds, grains and shells. They have been described as a people who cannot bear to leave a surface unadorned.
