BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Spatula with male figure; Chimú Culture, Peru, 900-750 AD.
Silver.
Bibliography: AA.VVV., Weaving for the Afterlife - Peruvian Textiles (Maiman Collection).
Measurements: 8 x 1 x 0.5 cm.
Male figure made entirely in silver of votive character. In the piece it can be seen how he carries an ocarina in his hands. The Chimú culture was born in the northern coast of Peru after the fall of the Huari Empire, between the years 1000 and 1200. It is believed that its origin is in the cultural fusion of the Mochica and the Lambayeque, although the Chimú based the foundation of their civilization on a myth, which narrates that ships arrived by sea to bring order to the kingdom, led by the god Tacaynamo, who governed the people of the Peruvian coast until his death. This culture excelled especially in urban planning, as evidenced by its formidable constructions, and also developed an important textile industry, pottery and advanced metallurgical techniques.
