The clay and limestone soils in which Chateau Clarke's grapes grow make their wine an unusual blend for the Médoc region. Their grapes are harvested by hand from low-yielding plots, then sorted in the warehouse and funneled to tanks by gravity. The wines are aged primarily in new barrels, where they mature for 14 to 18 months. The result is a rich, concentrated and ripe Clarke wine, considered a gold wine in the southern Médoc district.
