The history of the winery begins with the painter René Dürrbach, who bought the land thanks to the sale of a Guernica tapestry designed by René and Jacqueline Dürrbach together with Picasso and woven by Jaqueline. In 1973 his son Eloi planted the first vines. He planted a total of 17 hectares, half with Cabernet Sauvignon and half with Syrah. The first wine came out in 1979 and Eloi began to sell the wine discreetly at the winery. The winery itself explains "One day a car with a Burgundy license plate showed up at the winery and was interested in tasting the wines, it turned out to be Aubert de Villaine de Romanèe Conti. Soon after, his wine began to be exported to the United States and today it has that admired cult status that very few wines have". The soil in the Alpilles area is calcareous in origin and extremely rocky with a discrete clay layer.
