MARK ROBSON (UK, 1965) for ZANOTTA
"Fly seat.
Carbon fiber and linen (wadding).
Presents label.
Measurements: 65 x 178 x 127 cm.
The Fly chair was designed by Mark Robson in 2002 for the notable Italian company Zanotta. The piece stands out because it seems to float gently above the ground on which it sits, with undulating curves that resemble wings, ready to launch itself into the air with a lightness and delicacy reserved for the most refined designs. With a slightly futuristic touch, the fabric has been carefully crafted with enough elasticity to adapt to a multitude of seating and resting positions.
The Fly lounger's lightweight, organic form made it a design classic of the early 21st century, and it is now considered a remarkable collector's item, perfect for lounging on the beach, on a terrace, at home or in a lively urban setting.
Mark Robson studied at Middlesex University in London. In 1989 he obtained an MA in Furniture Design at the Royal College of Art in London. Since 1993 he has worked as a freelance artist and has participated in several exhibitions, including the Axis Gallery in Tokyo, the International Biennale in Belgium, the Centre Pompidou in France, the Salon du Meuble in France and Superstudio Più in Milan. His works are present in the permanent collections of several museums, such as the Design Museum in London and the Minneapolis Museum of Modern Art.
