BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Following Italian baroque models.
Table, ca. 1950.
Table top with hard stones, polychrome and gilded wood structure.
Measurements: 76 x 129 x 129 cm.
Table in carved and polychrome wood, with gilded details and hard stone top. It follows Italian baroque models. It has two drawers with seraphim heads as handles. They are decorated with landscape paintings. The claw feet are joined with an octagonal profile crosspiece, a figure that is repeated on the table top. The top combines different semi-precious stones emulating the Italian technique of pietra dura, an exquisite technique that reached its peak in the time of Ferdinando I de Medici, who founded the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, a workshop specialized in this technique. Our table combines malachite greens and marbled reds, among other varieties of semi-precious stones, creating a radial composition with a sumptuous finish.
