GONZALO GUZMÁN (Madrid, 1991).
"Estela". 2024.
Stainless steel.
Measurements: 125 x 30 x 17 cm.
Gonzalo Guzmán's work focuses on the exploration of the unconscious using lucid dreams as a tool for self-knowledge to create works that challenge our belief system. The artist explains that during the time of the pandemic he began to have lucid dreams that would lead him to create works such as the one shown here, which is part of his most ambitious project to date. Sculptures belonging to this same project could be seen in the solo exhibition he held in 2023 at the Senda gallery in Barcelona, with the title "Collision", and with which he participated in the ARCO fair in Madrid and the Art Brussels fair. In his sculptures he captures his dreams and they refer to megalithic monuments (dolmens, menhirs, stelae, etc.) that he creates in stainless steel. To materialize his dreams implies for the artist to become aware of the possibility of transforming reality by making the dream images palpable. Likewise, the choice of a reflective surface leads us to doubt the limits between objects and their reflections, between reality and fiction. Gonzalo Guzmán trained as an industrial designer at Elisava (Barcelona) and ECAL (Switzerland) and since he had the revelation of the lucid dream, he has been dedicated to sculpture. He is currently working on "El Cromlech", a formation of 12 menhirs of 3 meters high in a circle, as well as preparing an individual installation in the Miralls hall of the Liceu in Barcelona. Gonzalo Guzmán has exhibited his pieces in different parts of the world such as Germany, Switzerland, Italy and the United Kingdom, among other places.
