Javier Lorenzo (Alicante, 1950) is a painter with more than four decades of career, standing out for his individual and collective exhibitions. His work focuses on the creation of atmospheres, compositions and framing, giving life to each painting. This is his third solo exhibition in Alcoi, after having shown his work at the Crida Gallery (1978) and the Cultural Center (1991).
Trained at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia, Lorenzo began his career in abstraction in the 1970s, but then returned to figuration, exploring objects and everyday scenes. He is characterized by a meticulous painting, working with oil, watercolor and drawing. He uses the technique of glazes, superimposing layers of color to achieve luminosity and depth.
Lorenzo finds inspiration in the poetry of authors such as Rimbaud, Jaime Gil de Biedma and San Juan de la Cruz. His works include portraits, landscapes, flowers and everyday objects, such as vases and animals. In his landscapes, he reflects moments of light and changing atmospheres, similar to the tradition of the a plein air painters of the 19th century. He also creates compositions with figures, generally with their backs turned, as a means of involving the viewer in the environment depicted.
