Carl Fagerlund was born in Kalmar (Sweden) and graduated from the Stockholm Industrial College of Art in 1943. He taught drawing and worked as a lighting architect before starting work at Orrefors glassworks in 1946. Orrefors was founded in 1898 and created some of the most unique glass treatments of its time.
Fagerlund created light installations for numerous public spaces, including hotels in Copenhagen, the Prince Eugens Waldemarsudde Art Museum in Stockholm, Frederiksberg Town Hall (Denmark), Kiruna Town Hall (Sweden), the Swedish Embassy in Tokyo, General Motors headquarters in the United States and Möllevången Church in Malmö. His work has been exhibited in London, Paris, Berlin, Milan, Copenhagen and Stockholm, among other cities.
