DESCRIPTION

Pair of candlesticks Charles X; c. 1800.
Bronze and brass.
Measurements: 55 x 30 cm (x2).
Pair of candlesticks made in gilded bronze that have a very stylized and ornate design. Each piece is sustained on a polygonal base that gives way to three feet that adopt the form of a lion's claw, adorned in the superior zone with an applique that simulates bird feathers. The area where the foot is joined to the shaft, each pin is adorned with classicist-inspired leaves. The shaft, conceived as a classical column, has an ornamented fluted design. Finally, each of the pieces is topped with five lights whose container takes the form of a corolla with vegetal ornaments on the arms and scrolls next to the central light.
Bronze candelabra in the 19th century represented much more than a simple source of illumination: they were symbols of luxury, art and social status. Their elaborate design, inspired by styles such as neoclassical and romantic, adorned the salons of the elite, while their brilliance reflected the opulence of those who owned them. In an era of transition to gas and electricity, these chandeliers remained relevant as decorative and functional pieces, establishing themselves as icons of the refined taste and sophistication of the era.
