Vega Sicilia is undoubtedly a unique wine and one of the great Spanish classics. Its personality derives not only from the maximum quality of the grapes and the rigor of its manufacture, but above all from the love of detail that the Álvarez family, who bought the winery in 1982, has been able to transfer to its wines, although the winery was founded by Eloy Lecanda in 1864. This winery has the following awards: Gold Medal and Grand Diploma of Honor at the Christmas Fair in Madrid in 1927 and the Hotel Exhibition in Barcelona in the same year, and Grand Prize of Honor at the International Exhibition in Barcelona in 1929. The vines that make up the Vega Sicilia vineyards are located in the area of Valbuena de Duero, Valladolid. These are arranged along the course of the river, occupying a total of 250 hectares. The variety of the winery is the tempranillo de la Ribera or tinto fino, being an autochthonous grape variety. Although merlot, cabernet vignosaun and malbec are also grown.
