Canarian sculptor. He began to exhibit in the seventies. The critic Sabas Martí writes of his work: "Abel Hernández achieves a wise and suggestive transformation of the represented reality through an essentialization of the forms and the volumes. This essentialization is in Abel Hernández the conquest of an aerial, winged, floating dimension for his sculptural pieces. It is a suggestive proposal for that contradictory paradox of conceiving the volatile lightness from the solid gravity of materials such as bronze or zinc that here, transcending themselves, appear incarnated in another subtle destiny designated by the ethereal and that curdles and reverberates in a language of polish, shine and oxidation. Hernández thus forges a new dimension for the beings and objects that populate our environment, making them appear enveloped in a breath of symbolic figurations, with magical and enigmatic resonances that, however, often do not quite lose their realistic character, as if they were reluctant to abandon their memory of the lines, planes, profiles and contours learned during the age of time".
