Pere Gussinyé began his training at the School of Fine Arts of Olot, where he was a disciple of Josep Berga i Boix. Later he completed his studies with the painter Ignasi Mallol and at the Círculo Artístico de Sant Lluc, in Barcelona. Apart from his participation in the National Exhibitions of Madrid and Barcelona, as well as in other international exhibitions in which he was awarded several times, Gussinyé exhibited periodically in the Sala Gaspar in Barcelona, in Olot, Valencia, Madrid and other Spanish cities. In 1975 a tribute exhibition was dedicated to him at the Sala Francesc Armengol in Olot, and in 1979 what was to be his last exhibition during his lifetime was held at the Jaimes in Barcelona. His work starts from the Olot landscape tradition and, far from stagnating in the bucolic ochocentista style of Berga and Vayreda, evolves incessantly incorporating post-impressionist elements and factors of renovation, such as the expressive autonomy of "fauve" color, the constructive and synthetic sense of Cézanne, etc. In addition to landscape, the fundamental center of his work, Gussinyé worked on portraits and figures, subjects in which his language of joyful brushstrokes and a rough, cut-out sense of drawing also dominates. His is a style attentive to the plastic values and contrary to any mannerism or commercial concession. He was awarded prizes at the Madrid Autumn Salons of 1943 and 1946 and at the National Salon of Barcelona in 1944. That same year he was awarded the Painting Prize of the Ministry of National Education.
