BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Bracket clock; England, XIX century.
Wood and metal.
Measurements: 60 x 33 x 20 cm.
Bracket type clock with wooden case and glass, with an architectural structure composed of an extended base of trimmed skirts, facade with arches on all four sides and topped with a cornice and sloping roof with sinuous profile, with four ornamental fleurons. The dial has a golden frame that includes the Roman numerals, engraved, and the minutes in Arabic numerals. It also has baroque-style openwork hands, and is bordered by four spandrels based on classical style spandrels and leaves, chiseled in relief and openwork. Under the upper arch, above the dial, we see a medallion engraved with the name of the watchmaker, also decorated with openwork plant motifs.
The English developed a watchmaking mechanics differentiated from the rest of Europe, based on an industry of specialized workshops that produced products of great technical perfection, since the second half of the seventeenth century.
