As is characteristic of the sumptuous models of the reign of Napoleon III, this table clock is made entirely of gilded bronze and boasts a sculptural group of Greco-Roman inspiration. The effigy represents Diana the huntress (the Greek Artemis), accompanied by Eros (Cupid), with the quiver and the bow with which she shoots the arrows of love. The dog of the goddess playfully licks a small piece of Cupid. Artemis rests on the clock case, which takes the form of a stele and holds the dial in its center, with Roman numerals. The sculptural group rests on a base decorated with a trophy with a garland worked in relief. Horns of plenty decorate the feet of the piece of furniture.
