BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Charles X clock; c. 1820.
Gilded bronze.
Measurements: 52 x 48 x 12 cm.
This gilt bronze clock, dated around 1820 and Charles X style, is a neoclassical work rich in detail. Its rectangular base is decorated with garlands and floral motifs in relief. In the center, the clock case shows a white dial with Roman numerals, flanked by two female figures holding musical instruments, probably muses. An ornate lyre, symbol of music and poetry, stands out at the top. The piece reflects the elegance and taste for classical art characteristic of the period.
Nineteenth century bronze table clocks were key pieces in decoration and interior design, as well as symbols of social status and refinement. Elaborately crafted and often adorned with artistic motifs, these clocks not only served to measure time, but also reflected the technical advances and taste for fine craftsmanship of the era. Bronze, a durable and aesthetically appreciated material, allowed the creation of complex and elegant forms, integrating styles such as neoclassical or rococo, which made them highly valued objects in the residences of high society.
