DESCRIPTION

Rare watch with two dial complication, Verlinden in Paris, late 18th century.

Measurements: 50 x 24 x 17 cm.

Unique complication watch signed by the Parisian watchmaker Junior Verlinden. This watch is signed by Verlinden and the dials are by Jean Coteau. Verlinden was a Belgian watchmaker based in Paris, but above all he was an experimenter. Here he created two movements equipped with two different escapements. One was a more precise needle escapement, the other a simple lever escapement. By putting them together, Verlinden demonstrates that they synchronize perfectly, as evidenced by the two seconds hands in the center of the dials. This is an interesting investigation into the "feedback" phenomenon, aspects of which play an important role in modern electronics.
