Classic Pens Limited is one of the many fountain pen companies that emerged in the last 25 years, founded by collectors with the aim of selling or producing fountain pens. It was created in 1987 by Andreas Lambrou and Keith G. Brown, and has gained wide recognition in the fountain pen enthusiast community for developing a series of limited edition models with sterling silver guilloche engravings, inspired by classic designs from prominent high-end manufacturers.

The Classic Pens CP4 was launched as part of a limited edition of 1,865 pens in two models: Washington and Richmond. These pens are based on the design of the sterling silver Sheaffer Legacy, which was introduced in 1995 and has influences from the 1959-1968 Sheaffer PFM (Pen For Men). Although it shares the PFM's profile and nib, the Legacy features an all-metal body, making it heavier compared to the PFM. In addition, it uses a unique cartridge/converter system with a removable Touchdown unit, instead of the Snorkel system present in the PFM.
