The Blue Ocean fountain pen, known as M810, was Pelikan's first official limited edition and was launched in 1993. This model was inspired by the sales success of the collector's edition M800 Green Demonstrator, launched the previous year. The Blue Ocean is a demonstrator made of a deep blue transparent resin. Based on the M800 chassis, it features the characteristic components, such as two decorative rings on the piston knob, a decorative ring on the section and two decorative rings on the cap. The cap band bears the inscription "Pelikan - Germany -", while the top of the cap has a gold medallion with the Pelikan logo, showing two chicks. The end of the piston knob also features a gold medallion with a compass rose design. Unlike the Green Demonstrator, the Blue Ocean was a numbered release, with the edition number engraved on the crown at the top of the cap in the xxxx/xxxx format. The tip is the standard two-tone 18C-750 gold and bears the PF customs stamp. The commercial success of the Blue Ocean probably paved the way for many of the later limited editions. In total, 5000 units of the Blue Ocean fountain pen were produced, of which 1000 were sold in sets that included a matching ballpoint pen. It is reported that 1200 of these pens and 300 sets were sold exclusively in Germany after their launch in late autumn 1993.
