The Pelikan Evolution of Script fountain pen was launched in 2007 and is the first of the short M9000 series of fountain pens dedicated to the achievements of civilization.

For thousands of years, the knowledge accumulated by mankind, the various cultural achievements of different peoples, their legends and stories could only be passed on by word of mouth. As a result, much was irretrievably lost. Only with the invention of writing was it possible to preserve this ancestral knowledge in its original form for future generations.

Pelikan celebrates this quantum leap in the history of human civilization with a limited edition launched in 2007.

This fountain pen bears the name "Evolution of Script". With this, Pelikan recalls the origins of writing thousands of years ago: from the cave paintings that were the forerunners of writing, through the invention of hieroglyphics in Egypt and Mesopotamian cuneiform writing, to the development of the Greek alphabet as the starting point for European scripts.

The high-quality resin cap is engraved with cave painting motifs. The gold-plated body with lacquer decorations shows the other ancient writing forms as finely drawn symbols, masterfully engraved by hand. The different eras are visually separated by gold-plated rings, to appropriately symbolize the line of development.

The incomparable nature of this collector's item is evident in the 18-karat gold nib, which Pelikan stamped with a different design for this edition. On the clip, whose shape reflects the overall shape of the pen, the same pattern that is engraved on the nib is repeated in high relief, recessed into the clip.

On the technical side, too, this masterpiece represents writing culture in its purest form. Solid brass components ensure reliable functionality combined with the highest level of writing comfort. The artistic realization of the theme, coupled with the consummate workmanship of the highest quality materials, make "Evolution of Script" a highly desirable object, especially for collectors.

This plunger fountain pen will be produced in a limited edition of 930 copies worldwide: this recalls the first European adaptation of the Phoenician alphabet, which took place in Crete around 930 B.C. The edition number, which is engraved on the end of the filling button, makes each fountain pen a unique and unmistakable object.

The US Pen World Magazine readers' group voted Pelikan Evolution of Script as the winner in the "Cultural Theme" category (Readers Choice Awards 2008).
