With this latest limited edition, Pelikan presents a Maki-e fountain pen that stands out for its rarity and dazzling beauty. Unlike more common designs, this pen pays homage to a traditional Japanese pattern known as Komon, commonly used on luxury Japanese kimonos.

In addition, the artist can mix charcoal powder and gold dust into the lacquer, so that the pattern of the design rises above the surface: If you glide your thumb over the paint, you can see the difference. This is called Taka-Maki-e technique. It is a complex Japanese lacquer painting technique, renowned for its beauty and artistic mastery. In the process, the unique Japanese Urushi lacquer is applied to the fountain pen in several layers that are repeatedly polished. The design is then drawn with colored lacquer on the surface. This technique is called Togidashi-Maki-e.

The design is composed of eight hexagons in different styles, generating a combination of subtle and charming colors, enhanced by a wealth of precisely hand-painted details. These hexagons are surrounded by cherry blossoms in a reddish-gold tone, on a variable background that has been worked with the Byakudan-Nuri technique, which employs gold leaf and transparent lacquer. Thanks to this technique, the pen shines with impressive depth, showing red and orange hues when rotated between the hands.

The Pelikan Maki-e Fantasia pen is created using the complex Kaga Togidashi-Taka-Maki-e technique, a masterful craftsmanship that fuses German tradition, backed by more than 175 years of history, with renowned Japanese Maki-e painting techniques, appreciated worldwide.

The Pelikan logo on the crown, the limited edition number and the artist's signature are hand-decorated using the Maki-e technique. This edition is limited to only 88 units worldwide. Each pen features a two-tone 18-karat gold nib, size M, and is presented in a traditional Japanese paulownia wood box.
