Spurred by the invention of photography in 1840, artists began to question the exclusive role of art as a means of providing an accurate representation of the world. They moved away from traditional shapes and colors and began to explore more subjective issues, giving rise to the fascinating and sometimes shocking movement known as "abstract art." S. T. Dupont made his own free interpretation of this art movement with some exceptional pieces: pure, clear shapes alternate with elements of silver palladium and black Chinese lacquer to form geometric figures, resulting in a very clean pen design, based on the Olympio large size range.
