DESCRIPTION
After ALFRED JEAN FORETAY (Switzerland, 1861-1944).
Pair of candlesticks.
Silver. Marble pedestals.
With signature "A. Foretay" on the base.
With some pitting.
Silver weight approx. 5.450 grs.
Measurements: 37 x 12 x 12 cm (each one).
This pair of sculptural candlesticks is distinguished by the careful work of modeling. They represent two putti with curly hair embracing high foliated stems. The candlesticks' burner acts as a floral bud. It follows Foretay's models.
Alfred Jean Foretay attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. A student of Falguières, he received an honorable mention in 1891 and a gold medal in 1904 while attending the Paris Salons. Foretay left a legacy of remarkable sculptures that are highly collectible.
