The Japanese artist Yukata Mori develops a singular work in which he hybridizes the Japanese influence with the tradition of the avant-garde of minimalist roots. This is evident in this 2016 piece, in which he works with altered symmetries, perceptual deviations and subtle optical games.
This young Japanese resident of the Asturian town of Lugo de Llanera arrived in Spain several years ago, attracted by the sculptures of Gaudí, Chillida and Oteiza, passing through Barcelona and the Basque Country before settling in Asturias. He studied at the Oviedo School of Art and, after exhibiting in different galleries in the city, he participated in JustMadrid 2014 by the hand of the Gijón gallery Gema Llamazares. In recent years he has participated in contemporary art fairs in Lima, Marbella and Sao Paulo, among others. In 2017 the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation acquired a work of hers. Yukata has achieved a work of extraordinary visual delicacy. Through color and paper, Mori plays with perception, forcing the beholder to approach and move around the work to capture its full essence.
