Sculptor, painter, engraver and draftswoman. Marijose Recalde studied drawing at the School of Arts and Crafts in her hometown, graduating in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country in 1990. She completed her training with several woodcut courses at the Centro Internacional de la Estampa Contemporánea de Betanzos, in Bilbao Arte with Gil Shacha and with Miguel Villariño in Almería. In 1987 he won first prize in painting at the Certamen Navarro de Artes Plásticas; in 1988, first prize in sculpture at the same contest. In 1993 he won first prize in sculpture Pamplona Young Artists and in 1999 first prize Caja de España Sculpture. In 2007 he won the competition organized by Public Works of Navarra for the realization of a public sculpture in the Rotunda of Ezkaba in Burlada. Among the individual exhibitions we highlight the installation at the Gustavo de Maeztu Museum in 1996. Presents the exhibition "Journey to knowledge" at the Public University of Navarra (2001). This same year he exhibits "Portraits of Artists" in the Mixtos Hall of the Pamplona Citadel. In 2002 he exhibited "Siempre que hay Alegría" at the Museum of Navarra and in 2007 "El lado dulce de la vida" at the Arteko gallery in San Sebastian. In 2009 he exhibits at the Teatro Gayarre in Pamplona and, in 2011, he shows his vision of the simple life through eleven works in the exhibition 'Domestic Life' presented at the outdoor sculpture park Arenatzarte, in Güeñes. He has participated in more than 50 group exhibitions. His work can be found in the Caja Navarra Collection, Caja España Collection, CIEC Foundation Collection, Museum of Navarra, Pamplona City Council and Güeñes. In April 2012 the Government of Navarra, through the INAAC foundation, granted financial aid to Julia Juániz for the production of the medium-length film 'El lenguaje de los objetos', a documentary on Recalde's work. Breathing new life into found materials, bringing her sculptures into dialogue with the environment or synthesizing on paper her particular ecological worldview, Marijose Recalde opens the doors to a landscape where everyday life and myth go hand in hand. The popular print and the symbolic image, the craftsmanship and the art, the traditional scene and the magic pulse coexist in a singular way in the scenes that parade in three-dimensional pieces, paintings and woodcuts.
