"Pluscuamperfecto" is a work that belongs to the series En la nada todo cabe, where the artist develops the thesis that he conceives as the search for a "genetics of art", a journey through canonical characters and styles in the History of Art. This series is an attempt to apprehend in a symbiotic act what these artists saw as special in the world, both from their technique and their worldview. There they are, not only the artists, but also the characters that have inspired artists from generation to generation, resisting time and facing new conflicts. A baroque figuration by exuberant, theatrical, hilarious, that does not seek offense, nor displeasure, but the acceptance of the human in its greatest diversity and in the fullest of its existence. "Pluscuamperfecto" is a work that proposes a reflection on how we assume or live the past from the present. The symbols that are glimpsed on the canvas, tell us a story of both the universal and the personal.
Jan Valdés Téllez is an artist of Cuban origin who currently resides in Madrid. He began his academic training at the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes de San Alejandro in Havana, where he graduated in 2004. His works have been exhibited internationally, notably at the Toronto Art Fair, Canada, the Ludwin Foundation and the Fivars Galleries, Spain, among others.
