Lola Sandoval studied Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona. She worked in the field of decorative painting and poster design, before gaining recognition with her unmistakable and penetrating pictorial portraits. Madrid, 2011; Eat Meat gallery, Barcelona, 2011; Ayuntamiento de Báscara, 2011; Bac'09 Festival (CCCB, Barcelona); La Tarantella, Barcelona, 2009; El Pou Dolç, Peratallada, 2009. Lola transfers to the canvas and reinterprets old photographs. In front of her paintings we feel that sharp element that Roland Barthes baptized as punctum to refer to the disturbing aspect that some photos transmit. The artist rummages through her family's forgotten albums and chooses images that refer to celebrations of the last century, to neighborhood cinema sessions, to elementary school classmates... In all cases, the black backgrounds neutralize the particularity of the ephemeris to remain only with the group portrait. But despite this decontextualization, the titles of the works and the attitudes of the characters offer enough clues as to the type of event that brings them together. A dense atmosphere tinges the characters with a certain mood, but does not make them uniform, each one preserving his or her temperament.
