BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

PABLO SCHUGURENSKY (Catamarca, Argentina, 1954).
"Monet", 2020.
Oil on canvas.
Attached certificate of authenticity issued by the author.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 41 x 33 cm.
Pablo Schugurensky studied painting in Buenos Aires with professors Noé Nojechowicz, Luisa Manasero and Ideal Sanchez. Since 1980 he frequents Eduardo Bertozzi, whom he recognizes as his teacher. In 1988 he established his residence in Spain. In the words of Tomás Paredes (President of the Spanish Association of Art Critics), since 1999, when he exhibited in Orfila a series of portraits of his favorite painters, in whose catalog Francisco Umbral wrote, "the portraits of this painter have been gaining in strength. His expressionism is imposing, vivid, deep, fierce. With only the craft alone one cannot create this gallery of extraordinary portraits, which show a clear and generous way of understanding and feeling painting, without ambiguity. Schugurensky is not a newcomer, nor a long-distance runner, he is an artist who has preferred to place himself in time; who privileges the theme, the form and the essence of painting, above interests and fashions". He has recently held solo exhibitions in galleries in Madrid (Trueno, Matthei, El Molar, Orfila...), in the USA (Latino Artes Gallery, Milwaukee), Buenos Aires (VYP gallery), Bilbao (Abad Aguirre), Murcia (Mad)... He has participated in group exhibitions at Blackheath Gallery (London, from 2009 to 2013), Van Art and Rina Bouwen gallery in Madrid, among many others. In 2013 was published the monograph on his work, with text by Antonio Leyva. A painter of expressive brushstrokes, well versed in the history of painting, the trail of expressionist figuration of Freud and Spencer, as well as the naturalist tradition of the Baroque, is present in his work, of virtuous and expressive brushstrokes. His bold foreshortenings present an expressive carnal treatment, and his portraits are of unparalleled psychological depth. His gallery of famous painters reveals his ability to undress the character, to underline the peculiarities of his temperament, his eccentricities, always from a subjective point of view.
