BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
XAVIER BLANCH PLA (Barcelona, 1918 - Madrid, 1999).
"Two women".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 84 x 65 cm.
Xavier Blanch studied high school in Madrid, where he had the opportunity to visit, very often, museums and exhibitions. Later he began his artistic training in Barcelona, in the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi, where he was a disciple of J. Civil, J. Serra, R. de Campany and A. Sisquella, with whom he frequented the Sala Parés. He made his individual debut in 1942, and during the sixties he lived in Paris, Rome and Florence, where he furthered his studies. He remained in Italy for ten years, exhibiting and maintaining contact with various trends, although he was very close to the so-called "tonalism" of the Roman school. His painting is characterized by chromatic and formal softness, especially evident in female figures, and occasionally in his landscapes and still lifes.
