Josep Coll was formed between Vic, Olot, Tours, Brussels and Madrid, and debuted individually in 1931. He was co-founder of the Obra Cultural Balear in 1962, and in 1988 the Caixa de Girona inaugurated in his native town an art gallery that bears his name. In 1990 he received the Cross of Sant Jordi from the Generalitat, and the Rotary Club of Mallorca awarded him the Pulse de Artes Plásticas. The following year the Balearic government awarded him the Gold Medal, and in 1993 the Belgian Royal House named him Knight of the Order of the Crown. In 2007, after his death, was inaugurated in Valldemossa the Foundation-Museum that bears his name, and whose collection includes the bulk of his works. He is also represented in the Museums of the Sanctuary of Lluc and Porreres (Mallorca).
