José María Morató studied at the School of Sant Jordi, and won a medal in his first exhibition in 1940 at the Artists' Salon of Reus. Since then he also showed his work in Tarragona, Reus, Barcelona, Madrid and Paris. He was awarded the Tapiró Medal of the Diputación de Tarragona in 1944, the Painting Prize at the Exhibition of Contemporary Religious Art in 1952, the Vizconde de Güell Drawing Prize in the middle of the century, the Vilaltella de Lleida Medal in 1963, the Gold Medal of the Villa Palamós in 1971, and so on. A farmhouse is the protagonist of this rural landscape impregnated by an autumnal atmosphere. Morató composes his work from broad brushstrokes of almost geometrical style. The colors do not blend, but overlap, giving the whole a vibrant appearance. His work is kept, apart from numerous private collections, by the Fundació Vila Casas, the Jardín de Escultura del Pueblo Español in Barcelona, the Fundación de Arte Contemporáneo Fran Daurel in Barcelona, and others.
