A painter based in Esplugues de Llobregat since 1965, Francisco Benavente began his training in Spain and later extended it thanks to a scholarship in the German city of Ahrensburg. He is an honorary member of the Mediterranean Contemporary Art Center of San Francisco, Extremeño of the Year 1887 in plastic arts, and honorary mention and Gold Medal of the city of Esplugues de Llobregat (Barcelona). Specialized in the bullfighting theme, although he also works the nude, landscape and portrait, and nicknamed "the painter of light" by German critics due to his impressionistic style of Levantine character, Benavente has held numerous solo exhibitions throughout his career, both in Spain and in Italy, Venezuela, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Japan and the United States. His works are currently in the possession of the Contemporary Art Museums of Badajoz, Santa Cruz, Murcia, León, Valencia (Venezuela) and Abano Terme in Padua (Italy), the Maria Callas Museum and the Museum of Hispanic and Latin American Art in Miami, the Vatican City Museum, the Esplugues de Llobregat Museum and the Kurokawa Gallery in Tokyo and the Sheila Robinson Gallery in New York.
