The painter Günther Förg is considered one of the most relevant artists of Germany in the late seventies and early eighties. His pictorial style is characterized by a colorful abstraction of great lyrical intuition. For him, abstraction is his natural language. In his paintings, whether on canvas, aluminum or lead, the physical surface of the painting is essential to experience the work.

Painter, graphic designer, sculptor and photographer (most of his photographic cycles focus on architectural references), Günther Förg trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Karl Fred Dahmen. His first solo exhibition was held in 1980 at the Munich gallery of Rüdiger Schöttle. Between 1992 and 1999 he taught at the Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe. In 1996 he was awarded the Wolfgang Hahn Prize. From 1999 onwards he worked as a teacher in Munich. His work is held in important international collections such as the Architektur Galerie in Berlin, the Arken - Museum for Moderne Kunst in Denmark, the Broad Contemporary Art Museum in Santa Monica, California, the MOCA in Los Angeles, the MOMA in New York, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, the MACBA in Barcelona, the Tate Britain and Tate Modern in London, the Pompidou in Paris and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, among many others.
